Every autumn we take a trip to Taum Sauk Mountain State Park and it's a big trip considering it takes four hours just to get there. It's gorgeous and there is a really tragic love story tied into the history of the park. You can read about it in the link provided above. We almost always get the waterfall pools to ourselves and it's so much fun to just rest and play for awhile. Here are photos of our day. Mountains formed by volcanoes. Giant Rhyolite boulders to climb everywhere you turn.
